Applicants must have • Hygiene management experience gained within the food industry working to retailer codes of practice and standards. • Experience of working at sites supplying the major retailers; Tesco would be preferential. • Familiarity with HACCP and Food Safety Systems. • Understanding of the level of hygienic conditions at which the factory must operate to meet the food safety and quality standards set by legislation and customers in order to lead the hygiene team by example. • Experience of managing departmental budgets. • Passion and drive to commit to the business to deliver high standards across all areas of the site which will include production areas, confined spaces and both hot and cold environments. • A can-do, problem solving approach with the ability to identify team strengths and adapt people utilisation to meet and overcome all challenges faced in a fast paced manufacturing environment. • Allergen control experience. Following an internal promotion we are recruiting a Technical Manager to join the management team within a business which holds a very strong position in the market place maintaining excellent relationships with retailers and high production standards. The successful applicant will be responsible technically for a high volume chilled production facility developing and leading the technical team to ensure standards and reputation are upheld. Applications are invited from experienced technical managers with at least 5 years FOOD MANUFACTURING EXPERIENCE and the ability to build, develop and motivate a strong, well rounded technical team. Applicants should be educated to degree level (or equivalent) in a food related discipline trained to Level 4 (Advanced standard) in Food Hygiene & HACCP with knowledge and experience of • Application of 3rd party Food Safety Standards and the accreditation process. • Dealing with UK major retailers multiples, relevant government agencies etc. • Lead Auditor training. • A wide range of food manufacturing processes. • The principles and tools of lean manufacture and hands-on experience of implementing them. • Statutory obligations and customer requirements. • Retailer CoPs, industry standards, regulations and statutory requirements. Previous experience of working in a chilled manufacturing environment is highly desirable however applicants from ambient food manufacturing will be considered. JOB PURPOSE: Responsible for managing the technical function successful candidates will hold technical accountability for sites' quality management system, legal requirements, business standards and processes ensuring that systems are in place to guarantee only safe, legal and specification compliant products are despatched. WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR: The Technical Manager must be able to demonstrate familiarity with: • Retailer standards, specification systems and working closely with their technical representatives. • Quality based accreditation and certification standards BRC and ISO9000:2000. • Setting and delivering site technical (quality and new product and process development) strategy. • Modern manufacturing practices and continuous improvement techniques (TPM / TQM / 5S etc). • Conducting food and safety related inspections • Food regulations, HACCP and other food safety requirements on site. • Departmental budgetary control.
